This Tool is to enable you to find documents published about resources and sustainable development in the Arctic.
The basic mode of operation is that you select the sort of information you are looking for using the filter menu, which you display/hide by clicking on the icon . You then select the area you are interested in. There are two ways to select an area to search in:
The first method searches in a small square around the point selected. The size of the square is about 2.5mm or a tenth of an inch on the screen.
This means that the size of the search square is much coarser when the map is zoomed out, and much finer when the map is zoomed in.
Clicking on this icon resets the search filter and area.
Once you have performed a search, the locations associated with the documents are displayed on the map. You can click on a map marker to display the details of the document, and a link to the document itself.
You can view the results by clicking on this button
You can download the results as an Excel spreadsheet by clicking on the Excel button
You can print the results by clicking on the print button
If you have registered and are logging on, you can email the results to yourself by clicking on the email button . Also, after you search for documents, you can ask the system to email you if new documents that match those criteria are subsequently uploaded. |
You can change the location of points by dragging them on the map. When you click on the control marker for a polygon or line, the polygon or line becomes editable. You can then change its shape by dragging on the control points. Click on the shape or line to edit the meta data or save the changes. When you do this, the marker will turn pink, to show that there is unsaved data. You save such changes by clicking on the object and pressing the save button.
You can add new data by clicking on the add icon . This brings up a sub menu that allows you to add points , lines , polygons , or to associate documents with predefined jurisdictions .
After you click on one of these buttons, you are in drawing mode.To add a point, simply click on the map. You will then be presented a dialog so you can provide the data about the document, and to upload the document if appropriate.
To add a line, click the map to start the line, then click for each point along the line. To finish the line, click again on the end point. You will then be presented a dialog so you can provide the data about the document, and to upload the document if appropriate.
To add a polygon, click the map to start the line, then click for each point around the polygon. To finish the polygon, click again on the start point point. You will then be presented a dialog so you can provide the data about the document, and to upload the document if appropriate.
To go back to map navigation, click on the hand icon
You can also bulk upload meta data using the bulk upload tool.
The format of the required spreadsheet is the same as the one generated by a download. This format is described here.
